Paras Health Accelerates Expansion with Gurugram & Ludhiana Hospitals, Targets 3,000 Beds

Beyond greenfield projects, Paras Health is also increasing capacity within its current hospitals in Patna and Ranchi, with further expansion expected.

Paras Health has announced plans to build a 300-bed hospital in Gurugram and a 500-bed facility in Ludhiana, collectively adding about 800 beds over the next few years, as it aims to scale its total capacity to nearly 3,000 beds by 2029.

Paras Health has strengthened its growth trajectory by committing to both new hospital developments and expansion within its existing network, positioning itself to meet rising healthcare demand in North India.

Founded in 2006 with its first hospital in Gurugram, Paras Health, the North India-focused hospital chain, has steadily expanded its footprint across North India.

It currently operates eight hospitals across regions, including Haryana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. Its capacity has already increased from 1,250 beds in March 2022 to 2,135 beds in March 2024.

“We are building another 300-bed facility in Gurugram and a 500-bed hospital in Ludhiana, which will mark our entry into Punjab. With these additions, we should be closer to 3,000 beds in the next three years,” said Dharminder Kumar Nagar, Managing Director, Paras Health.

The upcoming Gurugram facility signals continued focus on strengthening presence in the National Capital Region. At the same time, the Ludhiana project marks a strategic entry into Punjab, expanding the company’s geographic reach.

Beyond greenfield projects, Paras Health is also increasing capacity within its current hospitals. Facilities in Patna and Ranchi are central to this plan, with the Patna unit already exceeding 400 beds and expected to grow further.

Ranchi, built on a large campus, offers significant room for expansion beyond its current 300-bed capacity. Similarly, in Panchkula, recently acquired adjacent land could enable the hospital to scale up to nearly 500 beds.

Nagar emphasised that the hospital chain’s strategy is driven by demand-supply gaps rather than rigid market classifications. “We will continue to serve the North Indian market. The opportunity is to build as many beds and hospitals as possible,” he said, adding that even within urban clusters like Gurugram, certain pockets remain underserved.

Nagar estimates that the country requires 20-30 additional corporate hospitals in underserved regions to bridge the gap, underscoring the long-term opportunity in the sector.

Importantly, the expansion is being funded through internal accruals and previously secured capital, without the need for fresh fundraising.

While the broader hospital sector in India is witnessing consolidation, Paras Health is not actively pursuing acquisitions at present. “There is no immediate pipeline, but opportunities may arise in the future,” Nagar noted.
