AIIMS Mangalagiri Expands Nuclear Medicine Capabilities with SPECT-CT & a High-dose Therapy Ward

Diagnostic scan costs have been kept within a range of INR 150 to INR 1,500, ensuring accessibility for patients across socio-economic groups.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri has strengthened its nuclear medicine infrastructure with the launch of a Gamma Camera (SPECT-CT) and a high-dose therapy ward, aimed at improving early diagnosis and expanding access to advanced, affordable care.

The newly installed Gamma Camera system supports more than 30 types of scans, allowing detailed functional imaging of various organs. This capability enhances clinicians’ ability to make timely and informed decisions, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

The equipment, procured for INR 10 Cr, reflects the institute’s investment in high-end medical technology.

Despite the advanced nature of the system, the institute has emphasized affordability. Diagnostic scan costs have been kept within a range of INR 150 to INR 1,500, ensuring accessibility for patients across socio-economic groups.

In parallel, the commissioning of the high-dose therapy ward enables the delivery of advanced radionuclide treatments, particularly for thyroid cancer patients.

Such therapies involve the administration of radioactive isotopes in controlled environments, requiring specialized infrastructure to ensure patient and staff safety.

The inauguration was led by Executive Director Ahanthem Santa Singh, highlighting the institute’s ongoing efforts to scale up tertiary care services in emerging healthcare hubs.
