Bihar Tops India in Digital OPD Registrations Using ABHA Scan & Share
More than five crore digital OPD tokens have been generated in the state using the QR-based registration system, placing Bihar ahead of other states in the adoption of digital OPD services.
Bihar has secured the top position in the country for outpatient department registrations through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account-based Scan and Share service, marking a major step in the digitisation of healthcare delivery.
According to official data, more than five crore digital OPD tokens have been generated in the state using the QR-based registration system, placing Bihar ahead of other states in the adoption of digital OPD services.
Under the initiative, patients register for OPD services by scanning a QR code displayed at hospital entrances or OPD counters.
Health minister Mangal Pandey said the achievement marked a historic moment for the state’s health department in the field of digital healthcare. He said the system has made OPD registration faster, simpler, and more transparent for patients.
Under the Scan and Share facility, patients no longer need to stand in long queues to obtain OPD slips. After scanning the QR code, a digital token number is generated, which is then used to complete the registration process.
Pandey said the broader objective of the initiative is to integrate healthcare services with digital technology. Through the ABHA platform, patients are able to access their health records on a mobile application, reducing the need to repeatedly carry physical documents.
Officials said the system has also reduced the administrative burden on hospitals and doctors by improving patient flow and access to medical records. The state government believes the increasing use of Scan and Share will help strengthen efficiency and accountability in public healthcare facilities.
Separately, the National Health Authority highlighted the wider impact of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana in 2025, reporting 42 crore Ayushman cards issued, over 10.9 crore hospital admissions, and ₹1.6 lakh crore in treatment support across India.
