The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has approved an allocation of INR 400 crore in the budget for the financial year 2025-26 to procure medical equipment for hospitals and health facilities across the Union Territory.

As per the official report, a procurement plan worth INR 373.11 crore has already been issued to the Jammu & Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL), the designated body responsible for acquiring machinery and devices on behalf of government health institutions.

The detailed plan includes placing purchase orders for a cath lab at Government Medical College (GMC), Baramulla, and two dialysis units for the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Uri.

Additionally, an AI-based X-ray machine is also currently in the tendering phase, with financial bids expected to be opened shortly.

Further, the procurement process of a 3-Tesla MRI machine for GMC Baramulla is reported to be underway.

In addition to equipment procurement, the government mentioned plans to introduce telemedicine services across six hubs in the Union Territory.

The initiative follows the government’s earlier announcement to expand telemedicine services across the Union Territory, aimed at improving access to medical care in remote and hard‑to‑reach areas.

Under the earlier expansion plan, the local Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and other peripheral facilities will be connected through telemedicine networks to specialist doctors and tertiary care hospitals.

The new allocation forms part of ongoing measures to enhance diagnostic capacity and healthcare access across Jammu & Kashmir.
