Gurugram Rolls Out QR Codes to Boost ABHA ID Registration Drive
Residents can submit their details using Aadhaar or a Driving License, while manual forms are available for those without smartphones.
The district health department has launched a large-scale drive to help residents register for Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs by scanning QR codes placed across all health facilities, including government hospitals, sub-divisional centres, and polyclinics.
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader plan for mandatory health record digitization in the coming months.
Dr Alka Singh, Civil Surgeon and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Gurugram, said the 14-digit unique identifier number will serve as a digital key to access patient medical records across healthcare facilities.
“Residents who have not created ABHA IDs have been encouraged to fill a form by scanning the QR codes. As part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) launched in 2021, each residents’ health data will be verified at one place,” Singh said.
QR codes have been placed at the outpatient departments (OPDs) of the Civil Hospital in Sector 10A, sub-divisional hospitals at Sohna and Pataudi, the Sector 31 polyclinic, and various urban Primary Health Centres (PHCs).
Residents can submit their details using Aadhaar or a Driving License, while manual forms are available for those without smartphones.
According to Dr Shalini Chopra, Deputy Civil Surgeon, many patients often misplace their old medical records, creating challenges during diagnosis.
“For faster and paperless consultations, aggregated data will help hospitals track diseases to make early diagnosis,” Chopra said.
Officials said Gurugram is among the fastest districts in adopting the unified digital health record system linked to Aadhaar.
“With over 1.2 million ABHA registrations for a population of 2.5 million, the district ranks the first spot in Haryana. We are expecting the remaining residents to soon create ABHA IDs,” Singh added.
Authorities also confirmed that private hospitals are being encouraged to link patient health records digitally.
“The district will soon enable e-prescriptions through teleconsultations, further helping in streamlining patient load at hospitals,” a senior official said.
