CM Naidu Accelerates Sanjeevani Rollout with 904 Mobile Medical Units, Sets July Deadline

The approved scale-up will require an estimated investment of INR 162 Cr, primarily to operationalise the mobile medical units.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has set a July deadline to expand the Sanjeevani programme statewide, approving 904 mobile medical units and outlining an ambitious plan to scale preventive and digital health services across the state.

The Sanjeevani programme, currently operational in Kuppam and Naravaripalle in Chittoor district, is designed to create longitudinal digital health records while improving access to diagnostics and early intervention.

Officials have already enrolled 3.14 lakh individuals into the Sanjeevani Digital Nerve Centre, indicating early traction in pilot regions.

At a recent review meeting, Naidu outlined a target to conduct medical screenings for 56.4 lakh people over the next year.

A key feature of the programme is the integration of digital communication, with test results to be shared directly with beneficiaries via WhatsApp within 48 hours, an approach aimed at reducing delays and improving patient engagement.

The approved scale-up will require an estimated investment of INR 162 Cr, primarily to operationalise the mobile medical units that will serve as the backbone of last-mile healthcare delivery.

Parallel efforts are underway to formalise an ‘AP Health Management Policy’ structured around five pillars, Matrutva, Shakti, Naipunyam, Kshema, and Sanjeevani, while also advancing a universal health coverage framework through the NTR Vaidya Seva Trust.

Insurance partnerships and public-private collaborations for new medical colleges are being explored to support system capacity.

On maternal health, Naidu has directed stricter oversight of caesarean sections, mandating audits in facilities where rates exceed 20 per cent and prioritising normal deliveries unless medically necessary.

The Chief Minister has also called for a movement-like approach to public health, directing MPs, MLAs, district collectors, and medical personnel to begin field-level engagement from April.

Monthly outreach activities under the ‘Swarna Andhra Population Management’ initiative, including village meetings, health camps, and awareness drives, will be conducted on the fourth Saturday of every month.
