The latest development forms part of the broader “Roadmap of India-Netherlands Strategic Partnership.”

India and the Netherlands have signed agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation focused on healthcare, pharma, and medtech.

The agreement was signed during the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Netherlands Prime Minister Rob Jetten in The Hague.

The latest development forms part of the broader “Roadmap of India-Netherlands Strategic Partnership” adopted by both countries to enhance bilateral cooperation over the next 5 years through focused, time-bound initiatives and joint plans of action.

According to official statements, the roadmap seeks to elevate India-Netherlands relations into a comprehensive Strategic Partnership by encouraging joint plans of action, institutional collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

A major focus of the partnership agreement includes healthcare, life sciences, and emerging technologies.

Under the partnership roadmap, both countries will strengthen healthcare cooperation to address global public health risks through the existing Memorandum of Understanding on Healthcare and Public Health and its Joint Working Group.

The agreement prioritises collaborations across key areas such as cross-border infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), non-communicable diseases (NCDs), digital health technologies including artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, climate change and health linkages, and healthcare capacity building.

The healthcare cooperation is expected to gain momentum through a Letter of Intent between the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, focusing on infectious diseases, vector-borne illnesses, antimicrobial resistance, One Health approaches, and disease surveillance.

In addition, both countries have agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in pharmaceuticals and medical devices aimed at supporting resilient global healthcare supply chains and advancing research and innovation.

Reportedly, the cooperation, which aligns with the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2025, will be facilitated through regular meetings of the Joint Working Group established under the MoU.

The partnership is also expected to promote academic and regulatory cooperation, business engagement, and knowledge exchange related to market access and healthcare innovation.

Apart from healthcare, the strategic roadmap also covers cooperation in areas including trade, climate action, digital technologies, water management, semiconductor, agriculture, and education.
