Andhra to Take AI-Enabled Sanjeevani Healthcare System Statewide from Jan 1, 2027

The proposed expansion follows the initial implementation of Sanjeevani in Kuppam and Chittoor districts, where officials reported improvements in chronic disease management and greater use of primary healthcare services.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed Andhra Pradesh officials to expand the Sanjeevani digital health programme across the state from January 1, 2027, connecting digital health records, AI-based interventions, and healthcare services to strengthen care delivery across all 28 districts.

The proposed expansion follows the initial implementation of Sanjeevani in Kuppam and Chittoor districts, where officials reported improvements in chronic disease management and greater use of primary healthcare services.

The programme is being positioned as an AI-enabled healthcare system that supports patients across the care continuum, from screening and diagnosis to treatment and follow-up.

At a review meeting held on August 26, Chief Minister Naidu said the project should be implemented effectively to create a significant shift in healthcare delivery and help Andhra Pradesh emerge as a model for other states.

Tata MD, the official partner for the Sanjeevani project, has also been asked to contribute to healthcare innovation.

Officials have prepared a 90-day action plan ahead of the January 1 rollout.

This includes conducting a baseline assessment, building the required digital infrastructure, training and certifying healthcare professionals, and integrating the system with national and state-level health portals.

Healthcare personnel across Andhra Pradesh's 28 districts are expected to undergo training as part of the transition.

The pilot programme has provided early indicators of its potential impact. Data presented during the review showed that 56% of hypertension cases monitored under the programme had been brought under control, while the severity of diabetes had reduced in 16% of cases.

Officials also reported increased utilisation of primary healthcare services. In a public feedback survey, 91% of respondents said their awareness of their health had improved after using Sanjeevani services.

Naidu also highlighted the importance of predictive, preventive, curative, and cost-effective healthcare, calling for wider and responsible use of AI-based health services, including an AI doctor system.

At the same time, he emphasised that the privacy and security of health data must remain a priority, alongside the development of dashboards for monitoring programme performance.
