KIMSHEALTH Launches Kerala’s First AI Smart Ambulance

With 5G network support, high-resolution video and patient vitals can be streamed from the ambulance directly to KIMSHEALTH’s Department of Emergency Medicine.

KIMSHEALTH has launched Kerala’s first AI-integrated smart ambulance service, introducing advanced digital capabilities to improve emergency medical response and in-transit care.

The ambulance includes real-time GPS tracking, 5G connectivity, ECMO/ECPR support, and systems for driver visibility.

A key component of the setup is the ability for emergency physicians to remotely monitor a patient’s vital signs and issue immediate treatment instructions based on real-time data.

With 5G network support, high-resolution video and patient vitals can be streamed from the ambulance directly to KIMSHEALTH’s Department of Emergency Medicine.

The system also enables real-time ECG monitoring and two-way video communication between paramedics and emergency specialists.

Once the ambulance is dispatched, patients and family members receive a tracking link showing the live location, vehicle details, driver identity, and estimated arrival time. Health updates are also made available via the patient portal.

A central dashboard in the emergency department displays live ambulance data, including speed, location, and key health indicators such as oxygen saturation, heart rate, blood pressure, and end-tidal CO₂.

The ambulance also has a portable ECMO system and mechanical chest compression devices to support critical care during transit. These battery-operated systems offer continuous compressions when required, supporting more effective resuscitation.

Dr M I Sahadulla, Chairman and Managing Director of KIMSHEALTH, inaugurated the ambulance and said, “If care is administered effectively during the golden hour, the chances of saving patients and bringing them back to life are significantly higher.”

He described the initiative as one that could set new standards in emergency medical services.

The smart ambulance service will be free of cost within Thiruvananthapuram city limits.

In a similar move, Unifeeder, a DP World company, recently partnered with Kerala-based NGO PlanatEarth to launch a hybrid Marine Ambulance and Dispensary service for the island communities of Kadamakkudy Panchayath in the Vypin Constituency of Ernakulam District.

The initiative is expected to benefit more than 17,000 residents across 14 remote islands with limited road access.
