Kerala to Receive AIIMS at “appropriate time”, says Union Minister Nadda
The establishment of such institutions is part of the government’s broader vision to strengthen and develop medical education and healthcare services nationwide.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda has recently addressed Kerala’s demand for an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) during an executive meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram.
Acknowledging the state’s demand for AIIMS, Nadda said, “The demand for an AIIMS in Kerala is recognised, and at the appropriate time it will be announced and it will be set up at the appropriate place.”
He further said that the Union government is committed to improving healthcare infrastructure across the country, and Kerala’s request is under serious consideration. He added that the establishment of such institutions is part of the government’s broader vision to strengthen and develop medical education and healthcare services nationwide.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George, urging the center to expedite the decision-making, said, “The people of Kerala have long awaited an AIIMS, and we hope the Centre will prioritise this request.”
Reports indicate that Kinalur, in Kozhikode district, has been considered as a potential location for the establishment of the institution.
Earlier, Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi had suggested Alappuzha as a possible site, citing the district’s healthcare challenges. He also said that if Alappuzha is not considered, the institute could be proposed for Thrissur; however, the center has not yet finalised the decision.
