NTR Health University to Set up AI Disease Modelling & Decision Center

The DMDC will focus on analyzing real-time health data to identify disease patterns, predict outbreaks, and support timely interventions.

Andhra Pradesh’s Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences has announced plans to set up an AI-based disease modelling and decision support centre under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme on its premises.

The new facility is aimed at strengthening and enhancing disease forecasting, prevention, and response systems.

The proposed center will be developed with support from the Gates Foundation and in collaboration with the National University of Singapore's Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.

As part of the plan, NTR Health University is expected to sign an agreement with the National University of Singapore’s Public Health Department, which already has a collaboration with the Gates Foundation.

As per reports, the estimated project's expected cost is around INR 5.73 crore in the first year and INR 3.7 crore annually thereafter.

The DMDC will focus on analyzing real-time health data to identify disease patterns, predict outbreaks, and support timely interventions.

It is expected to be integrated with hospitals across the state, enabling continuous data flow on communicable and non-communicable diseases for better decision-making.

The future expansion plan will also include maternal and child health monitoring.

Further, the state is also planning to integrate AWARE (Advanced Warning Advisory for Resilient Ecosystem) technology from the Real-Time Governance Society into DMIDC.

In addition to the AI centre, the university has also announced measures to strengthen research and academic development. These include increased student research scholarships, expanded faculty research grants, and improved access to digital learning resources through an e-platform.
