Center Approves INR 700 Cr for AIIMS Darbhanga
The latest allocation builds on the previously sanctioned INR 1,264 crore, taking the total estimated project cost to nearly INR 1,964 crore.
The Union government has approved an additional INR 700 crore for the development of AIIMS Darbhanga, aimed at scaling up the infrastructure for the upcoming healthcare and medical education project in Bihar.
The latest allocation comes over and above the previously sanctioned INR 1,264 crore, bringing the total estimated project cost to nearly INR 1,964 crore.
The approval was reportedly granted during a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the parliamentary session, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda stated that the additional funding is intended to accelerate the construction and address delays that have impacted the project’s progress.
The AIIMS Darbhanga campus is being developed near the Shobhan-Ekmi bypass in Darbhanga district.
Further, to facilitate the project, the Bihar government has allocated approximately 187 acres of land to the Center.
Once operational, the facility is expected to improve access to advanced healthcare services for residents of north Bihar and the Mithila region.
Further, the institute is planned to include a super-speciality hospital with around 750 beds, along with a medical college and nursing college.
This is expected to enhance both service delivery and medical education capacity.
In addition to healthcare services, a major hub for modern medical treatment, research, and training aimed at strengthening the regional healthcare system
The project had received the official approval in September, 2020, while the foundation was laid by PM Narendra Modi on November 13, 2024. The new allocation aligns with the Centre’s broader focus on improving healthcare infrastructure and medical education across the country.
