JP Nadda Unveils AIIMS ‘Disha’ App for Smart Hospital Navigation

It supports multilingual voice and visual guidance, with navigation available even without an internet connection.

AIIMS Delhi has introduced ‘Disha’, an AI-powered hospital navigation app launched by Union Health Minister JP Nadda.

The mobile app is designed to guide patients and visitors through the hospital using real-time digital maps, voice guidance, and wheelchair-friendly routes.

The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons and intelligent AI routing algorithms to provide real-time, turn-by-turn navigation inside the hospital.

OPD rooms and diagnostic centres to pharmacies and billing counters, Disha aims to reduce confusion for patients and visitors, especially first-timers and the elderly.

AIIMS Disha offers customized wheelchair routes, ensuring accessibility for patients with mobility issues.

It supports multilingual voice and visual guidance, with navigation available even without an internet connection.

The app provides 2D digital maps of hospital floor plans and points of interest, recommending the shortest or most accessible routes. It also enables multi-floor and multi-building navigation and features live heat maps for crowd flow management.

Key Features: Disha App

AIIMS Director Dr. M. Srinivas said, “The concept of AIIMS Disha stands to represent our vision of leveraging next-generation AI and IoT technologies for patient-centric services. Thus positioning AIIMS not only as a healthcare institution but also as a pioneer for digital infrastructural purchases for hospital navigation.”

Officials added that the app helps in reducing helpdesk burden, cutting waiting times, and improving operational efficiency, while kiosks with Android and iOS support are also being installed within the campus.

In a similar development, days back, AIIMS Delhi launched ‘Never Alone’, an AI-driven mental health app for students. The initiative was introduced on World Suicide Prevention Day to support student wellness and raise awareness of mental health issues.
