Additionally, the system can perform full diagnostics without internet access, later syncing data to the cloud when connectivity is available.

In a significant advancement towards innovation, an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur student has developed an AI-powered tool to help individuals self-screen for heart and lung disease.

The innovation known as the ‘JivaAScope’ is a pocket-sized, AI-powered device that allows individuals to self-screen for heart and lung disease within a few minutes.

This breakthrough innovation, ‘JivaScope’, has earned the IIM student named Tuhin Sahoo the James Dyson Award 2025

JivaScope: Key Highlights

The JivaScope is designed to mitigate the gap in cardiovascular and respiratory illness of individuals priced at the cost of Rs 3000 for remote settings with limited medical infrastructure.

The tool operates through a compact, handheld unit powered by a haptic button and linked to a mobile app via Bluetooth 5.2. The app further guides users through four standard chest zones with infrared LEDs and haptic feedback for accurate placement.

Using MEMS-based acoustic sensors, the device captures low-frequency heart and lung sounds (20–2000 Hz) while real-time noise cancellation filters out background interference.

An onboard ARM Cortex-M processor, running AI models trained on thousands of clinical samples, processes these sounds.

Reportedly, within seconds, the app generates an AI-based report that flags abnormalities such as murmurs, wheezes, or crackles, accompanied by zone-wise visuals and health recommendations.

Additionally, the system can perform full diagnostics without internet access, later syncing data to the cloud when connectivity is available. Reports can be stored, exported, and shared with doctors remotely.
