HP Govt to Invest INR 1,300 Cr to Boost Modern Healthcare Technologies & Diagnostic

This move is part of a broader INR 3,000 crore healthcare overhaul aimed at equipping medical institutions with advanced technologies, state-of-the-art diagnostics, and innovative treatment capabilities

The Himachal Pradesh government has announced an INR 1,300 crore investment under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Phase-II program to strengthen and modernize healthcare delivery across the state.

This move is part of a broader INR 3,000 crore healthcare overhaul aimed at equipping medical institutions with advanced technologies, state-of-the-art diagnostics, and innovative treatment capabilities.

The plan was announced by Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during the State-Level Health Dialogue Session in Shimla, which brought together Chief Medical Officers, Block Medical Officers, and Medical Superintendents to address grassroots challenges and operational bottlenecks.

The initiative focuses on upgrading infrastructure and technology across Model Health Institutions, replacing obsolete medical equipment, and introducing advanced diagnostic capabilities, including smart laboratories that can conduct multiple tests using a single blood sample.

Further, the state plans to expand robotic surgery facilities beyond existing centers, integrating robotics in select medical colleges and hospitals, including Nerchowk and Hamirpur, aimed at enhancing precision and reducing recovery times.

Additionally, substantial funding will be allocated to the development of smart laboratories designed to conduct multiple diagnostic tests from a single sample, with the objective of improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing turnaround times for patients. The state government has earmarked INR 75 crore for the establishment of these smart labs.

The broader reform plan also includes the decentralization of administrative and financial authority to frontline health officials, the creation of rapid-response funds to address urgent operational requirements, and the completion of ongoing healthcare infrastructure projects by 31 March 2026.
