The Himachal Pradesh government has directed health department officials to fast-track the procurement of medical equipment to strengthen public healthcare services across the state.
Chairing a meeting of the purchase committee in Shimla, health and family welfare minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil (retd) said officials must accelerate the tendering and procurement cycle for medical supplies and equipment without compromising on transparency.
He said every step of the process should be aimed at improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that quality services reach even the most remote parts of the state.
The minister underlined that the government is focused on equipping health facilities with modern diagnostic, laboratory and medical equipment so that patients can access advanced care within the public system.
The minister urged officials to prioritize swift procurement and timely installation of machinery in government hospitals and health centers. He said the objective is to minimize dependence on private providers and out-of-state facilities for critical diagnostics and treatment, and to build capacity within the state’s own health infrastructure.
Colonel Shandil said modernization and expansion of healthcare infrastructure remain a top government priority and added that there are no financial constraints for meeting the sector’s essential equipment and infrastructure requirements.
Health secretary M Sudha Devi and senior officers of the department were present at the meeting, which reviewed ongoing and upcoming procurement plans for medical equipment in the state.
Days back, the Himachal Pradesh government rolled out a ₹213.75 crore modernization plan focused on improving diagnostic capabilities across state-run hospitals. The initiative aims to integrate advanced medical technologies to enable faster and more accurate disease detection.
The plan includes the installation of five high-resolution MRI scanners and advanced CT imaging systems in medical colleges, along with other diagnostic tools designed to enhance precision in radiography and testing. These upgrades are expected to significantly improve access to early screening and specialized healthcare across the state.
