Himachal CM Unveils New Tesla MRI System at IGMC Himachal, Shimla

The government has committed more than INR 3000 crore to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has inaugurated the advanced 3 Tesla MRI machine at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla to strengthen diagnostic services and upgrade the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

The advanced imaging equipment has been installed at a cost of approximately INR 23 crore and is expected to enhance diagnostic accuracy.

Speaking at the inauguration, Sukhu stated that the state government is focused on prioritizing healthcare modernization and investing in advanced medical technologies.

He added that the government has committed more than INR 3000 crore to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh.

He further noted that similar 3 Tesla MRI technology is currently used at premier institutions such as the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and the state aims to provide comparable facilities at its government medical colleges.

This move is expected to enable patients in Himachal Pradesh to access advanced diagnostics, reducing the need to travel outside the state for specialized care.

Moreover, as part of its broader healthcare upgrade effort, the government is introducing advanced medical technologies across government medical colleges at Tanda, Shimla, Hamirpur, and Nerchowk, along with the upcoming medical facility at Chamiyana.

In addition, plans are underway to strengthen the Orthopaedics Department at IGMC and introduce robotic orthopaedic and spine surgeries. The government also intends to establish specialized intensive care units (ICUs) for medicine, paediatrics, and respiratory diseases.
