Assam Health Minister Unveils New 1.5 Tesla MRI Unit at Tinsukia Medical College

The unit features advanced imaging technology built at a cost of around INR 12.5 crore, including the cost of the Siemens MRI unit

Assam has announced the launch of a new 1.5 Tesla MRI center at Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital.

The new facility was inaugurated by Ashok Singhal, Assam’s Minister for Health and Family Welfare, aimed at strengthening diagnostic care and healthcare infrastructure in Upper Assam.

The newly launched MRI unit is reportedly the first of its kind in the Tinsukia region and is expected to enhance early disease detection, improve diagnostic accuracy, and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for advanced imaging services.

Further, the unit features advanced imaging technology built at a cost of around INR 12.5 crore, including the cost of the Siemens MRI unit, and will be operational under the Assam Medical Services Corporation Limited (AMSCL).

Commenting on the launch of the new facility, Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal said, “This new 1.5 Tesla MRI centre will vastly improve the accuracy and speed of medical diagnosis while ensuring that people from Tinsukia and neighbouring districts can access affordable and timely healthcare. This center reflects our government's vision of ‘Healthy Society, Healthy Assam’.”

“With the commissioning of these MRI facilities, the government is not only enhancing diagnostic capacity but also ensuring timely detection of diseases, better treatment outcomes, and a reduction in the overall cost of healthcare for the general public,” he further added.

According to officials, the launch of this MRI center aligns with Assam’s broader healthcare expansion efforts, which include upgrading medical college infrastructure and increasing access to advanced clinical services throughout the region.
