Gujarat Govt Proposes INR 13,000 Cr International Medicity Near Ahmedabad

The Medicity is proposed to be developed in phases, with healthcare delivery and medical education infrastructure forming the core focus of the initial stage

The Gujarat government has announced plans to develop an international-standard Medicity near the Kadi-Kalol region in north Gujarat, with an estimated investment of about INR 13,000 crore.

The initiative is intended to establish a comprehensive healthcare and research hub in proximity to Ahmedabad.

Under the proposal, the Medicity will include advanced hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission International, medical and nursing colleges, R&D centers, wellness and rehabilitation facilities, and supporting infrastructure such as a medical devices park and cold chain logistics.

According to senior officials, an integrated medical city is expected to generate long-term economic value by attracting private investment and supporting startups in health technology and biotechnology, which seek to enhance healthcare standards.

The Medicity is proposed to be developed in phases, with healthcare delivery and medical education infrastructure forming the core focus of the initial stage.

The location near Kadi and Kalol is being considered due to its proximity to Ahmedabad, existing healthcare institutions, pharmaceutical clusters, and transport connectivity, including the international airport.

The Medicity proposal is expected to be implemented with participation from both public and private stakeholders.

The project’s design draws on models like the Dubai Health Care City, aiming to integrate advanced healthcare delivery with education, research, and allied services.

Further, a Medical Value Travel board, with representatives from the state’s health and tourism departments, is expected to oversee implementation.

The government aims to completethe Medicity project by 2028.

Moreover, the officials noted that the proposal forms part of broader efforts to enhance the state’s healthcare infrastructure, support research activities, and position the region as a significant centre for medical services, treatment, and related sectors.
