Chhattisgarh Signs MoU with Continental Hospitals for INR 200 Cr Super Speciality Facility in Bastar
Of the total outlay, ₹120 Cr will be provided by the central government, while the state will contribute ₹80 Cr.
The Chhattisgarh government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hyderabad-based Continental Hospitals to establish a 240-bed super speciality hospital in Bastar’s Jagdalpur, marking one of the state’s most significant healthcare investments in the tribal-dominated region.
The project, estimated to cost ₹200 Cr, will be developed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). Of the total outlay, ₹120 Cr will be provided by the central government, while the state will contribute ₹80 Cr.
According to officials, the hospital will come up on nearly 11 acres of land and is planned as a 10-storey facility offering advanced medical services.
The MoU was signed at Mahanadi Bhawan in Raipur in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, along with senior bureaucrats and representatives of the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), which is reported to have played a facilitative role.
While the precise contours of NMDC’s involvement are yet to be detailed, officials indicated that the state-owned miner has supported the project’s development.
Addressing a Regional Gap
Bastar has historically lagged in healthcare infrastructure due to its geographical remoteness and prolonged conflict with Naxalite groups.
Patients from the region are often compelled to travel long distances to Raipur or even outside the state for specialised treatment.
The upcoming facility is expected to bridge this gap by offering advanced care locally. Although specific departmental allocations have not been disclosed, the hospital is expected to provide services in cardiology, oncology, neurology, nephrology, and trauma, as well as critical care and diagnostic facilities.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has repeatedly emphasised Bastar’s importance in the state’s development agenda. In a recent policy interview, he highlighted the government’s commitment to extending special incentives to underdeveloped and conflict-affected districts, such as Bastar.
“We are determined to achieve the target set by PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of ending Naxalism by March 31, 2026,” he said, noting that healthcare, infrastructure, and livelihood projects are being fast-tracked in the region.
A Strategic Step
The hospital project is being positioned as part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen social infrastructure in Bastar, alongside investments in agriculture, tourism, and skill development.
Officials mentioned the facility is expected to deliver healthcare services and also create employment opportunities for medical and paramedical staff.
Continental Hospitals, a tertiary care provider based in Hyderabad and part of the Parkway Pantai group, is expected to bring in clinical expertise and operational know-how.
Neither the state government nor Continental Hospitals has announced a construction timeline or projected completion date.
Nevertheless, health officials described the MoU as a “turning point” for the region. Once operational, the hospital is expected to substantially reduce the outflow of patients from Bastar to Raipur and other cities, offering local access to critical healthcare for the tribal population.
