LMIMS Set to Become One of Asia’s Largest Hospitals with 1,000-Bed Super-Specialty Facility
The first phase of the project will feature a 1,000-bed super-specialty surgical hospital.
On the 96th birth anniversary of the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, the Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation (LMMF) has announced plans to establish the Lata Mangeshkar Institute of Medical Sciences (LMIMS) in Pune.
This initiative aims to honor her legacy by providing world-class healthcare services to the community.
The proposed LMIMS is to be situated on a sprawling 40-acre campus in Nandoshi, off Sinhagad Road, Pune.
The first phase of the project will feature a 1,000-bed super-specialty surgical hospital, positioning it as one of the largest medical institutions in Asia.
Subsequent phases are planned to include specialized facilities for rehabilitation and psychiatric care, as well as a museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating Lata Mangeshkar’s enduring legacy.
Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, trustee of LMMF, emphasized the foundation's commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure in Pune. He stated, “We have already submitted the plans for the surgical hospital for approval. Work is expected to begin this December with the target of early completion.”
Dr. Kelkar further remarked, “Lata didi carried forward our father’s legacy by nurturing the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. Now, in her memory, we are taking the next step to create one of the finest medical institutes in Asia.”
By integrating advanced medical facilities with a tribute to one of India's most iconic cultural figures, the project reflects the Mangeshkar family's dedication to public welfare and community service.
The foundation's experience with institutions such as the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Mai Mangeshkar Hospital shows its capability to execute large-scale healthcare projects.
“We hope to commence the work (on LMIMS) with a target of early completion. Other medical facilities like rehabilitation hospital, psychiatric hospital, super-speciality medical hospital, museum and so on are currently being planned,” Dr. Kelkar added.
