Aster DM Healthcare Launches INR 190 Cr, 264-Bed Multispecialty Hospital in Kasaragod

Equipped with advanced imaging systems, such as a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner and a 160-slice CT machine, the hospital also offers 24/7 accident and trauma services.

Aster DM Healthcare has launched Aster MIMS Kasaragod, a ₹190-crore multispecialty hospital with 264 beds and more than 30 specialties, bringing advanced medical care to Kerala’s northernmost district.

The hospital was inaugurated on October 2 by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in the presence of Aster Group Chairman Dr Azad Moopen and Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.

The new facility, spread over 2.1 lakh sq. ft. at Indira Nagar in Chengala, is designed as a regional hub for tertiary care.

It includes a 20-bed emergency department, 61 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, seven major and two minor operation theatres, a 16-bed neonatal ICU, and 15 dialysis beds.

Equipped with advanced imaging systems, such as a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner and a 160-slice CT machine, the hospital also offers 24/7 accident and trauma services.

Among the specialised services are advanced cardiology and vascular procedures, comprehensive oncology with chemotherapy units, and critical-care interventions including ECMO/ECLS and haemadsorption therapy for conditions such as snakebite, sepsis, and respiratory distress.

Around 60 doctors across disciplines, supported by nurses and allied staff, form the core clinical team.

Dr Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare, said, “The launch of Aster MIMS Kasaragod is a momentous milestone, as we further strengthen our presence in Kerala with our 8th hospital in the state.”

“With this new 264-bed, state-of-the-art facility, we are bringing advanced medical technologies, comprehensive specialities, and expert care closer to the people of Northern Kerala,” he added.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan said, “It is heartening to see Aster, with its long-standing legacy in healthcare, taking another important step in Kerala.”

The hospital is expected to generate more than 600 direct and indirect jobs, offering opportunities for doctors, nurses, paramedics, and support staff in the region.

For patients, the new facility aims to reduce referrals to Mangaluru, Kannur and other cities for advanced care, bridging a long-acknowledged gap in Kasaragod’s healthcare infrastructure.

With this launch, Aster DM Healthcare now operates eight hospitals in Kerala and 20 across India.

The group has stated that expansion into tier-2 and underserved regions remains a priority as part of its wider growth strategy, with a focus on combining affordability with accessibility in tertiary care.
