The Minister stated that the approved upgrades include Patliputra Medical College in Dhanbad and Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. Among the newly approved AIIMS is one located at Deoghar in Jharkhand.
The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, has informed the Lok Sabha about the approval of 22 new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the upgradation of 75 Government Medical Colleges and Institutions (GMCs) under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). These initiatives aim to expand super-specialty healthcare across the country.
The Minister stated that the approved upgrades include Patliputra Medical College in Dhanbad and Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. Among the newly approved AIIMS is one located at Deoghar in Jharkhand.
Additionally, under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Establishment of New Medical Colleges Attached to Existing District/Referral Hospitals, 157 medical colleges have been sanctioned nationwide.
“Under PMSSY, 75 upgradation projects for GMCs, including the creation of Super Specialty Blocks and Trauma Centers, have been approved. The establishment of 22 AIIMS includes provisions for advanced super-specialty care,” Nadda explained in response to parliamentary queries.
In response to concerns about improving healthcare services in Jharkhand, the Minister highlighted the National Health Mission (NHM) initiatives, which include technical and financial assistance to States and Union Territories.
He detailed ongoing programs such as Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Mobile Medical Units, National Ambulance Services, and the Free Drugs and Diagnostics Service Initiative.
Further, administrative approvals under the Pradhan Mantri-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) have allocated INR 20,451.31 Cr for the period 2021–2025.
For Jharkhand, the budget includes INR 625.68 Cr for establishing and strengthening 893 Sub-centres, 100 Block Public Health Units, and 17 Integrated Public Health Labs.
The PM-ABHIM’s Centrally Sponsored Scheme component provides for Critical Care Blocks (CCBs) in 602 districts with over 5 lakh residents. Jharkhand has also received approvals for 15 CCBs and additional allocations under this scheme.
Under the Fifteenth Finance Commission’s health grants, INR 70,051 Cr, including INR 2,370.19 Cr for Jharkhand, has been allocated for strengthening infrastructure, diagnostics, and essential health services from 2021–2026.
