The Chhattisgarh government has sanctioned a total of INR 1,077.07 Cr for the establishment of three new government medical colleges, marking a significant step toward strengthening healthcare and medical education infrastructure in the state.

The colleges will be set up in the districts of Janjgir-Champa, Kawardha (Kabirdham), and Manendragarh.

According to an official order issued by the Medical Education Department, the sanctioned funds will be allocated as follows: INR 357.25 Cr each for the colleges in Janjgir-Champa and Kawardha, and INR 362.57 Cr for the college in Manendragarh.

The budget covers construction and development work, including academic buildings, hospital facilities, and other essential infrastructure.

This initiative is part of the state government’s broader vision to expand access to quality medical education and healthcare services, especially in underserved and remote regions.

By establishing these institutions, the government aims to increase the number of trained medical professionals, reduce dependency on private colleges, and improve healthcare delivery across Chhattisgarh.

Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai have played a key role in advancing this proposal.

Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal mentioned that the new colleges will not only enhance public health services but also create educational and employment opportunities for local youth.

The choice of locations reflects a strategic focus on regional balance. Janjgir-Champa, a semi-urban district with a growing population, will benefit from improved medical training and services.

Kawardha, located in a tribal belt, is expected to see inclusive development through better healthcare access. Manendragarh, in northern Chhattisgarh, will gain critical infrastructure to serve its remote communities.

The move aligns with the government’s long-term goal of ensuring that every district in the state has access to high-quality medical education and healthcare facilities.

Once operational, these colleges will significantly reduce the need for students to travel out of state for medical studies and will help address the shortage of doctors in public hospitals.
