Ayushman Bharat Rolls Out at Private Delhi Hospital

This move follows Health Minister Pankaj Singh’s earlier assurance that all major private hospitals in Delhi, including Max, Fortis, and Apollo, will be empanelled under Ayushman Bharat.
In a significant move for public healthcare in the Capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched Ayushman Bharat services at Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital.
The event marks the beginning of Delhi’s integration of private hospitals under the Central government’s flagship health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
As part of a special women’s health campaign, the hospital also announced 10,000 free cancer screenings, including 5,000 mammograms and 5,000 Pap smear tests, to promote preventive care.
Additionally, a mobile diagnostic van equipped with mammography and lab services will travel to underserved areas across Delhi, providing on-the-spot screenings and health consultations.
This move follows Health Minister Pankaj Singh’s earlier assurance that all major private hospitals in Delhi, including Max, Fortis, and Apollo, will be empanelled under Ayushman Bharat. So far, only 82 private hospitals and 11 government facilities in the Capital are on the scheme’s panel.
The initiative is crucial as private hospitals have historically hesitated to join due to low package rates and delayed payments under government schemes. Healthcare associations and hospital groups have repeatedly called for a revision of reimbursement rates to align with actual treatment costs.
Under Ayushman Bharat, eligible patients from poor households and those above 70 years of age receive health insurance coverage of INR 5 lakh per family per year, with Delhi offering an additional INR 5 lakh top-up for its residents.
While nationwide empanelment rates have dipped sharply this year, falling from an average of 316 hospitals per month in 2024 to just 111 per month in 2025, Delhi’s new government is determined to bring big private players onboard soon.
