Dr Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy Named CEO of Apollo Hospitals, Chennai

A veteran liver anaesthetist and intensivist, Dr Kaliamoorthy will simultaneously continue in his role as Senior Consultant in Liver Anaesthesia and Critical Care.

Apollo Hospitals has appointed Dr Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy as the Chief Executive Officer for its Chennai operations, marking a key leadership transition at the group’s flagship unit. 

A veteran liver anaesthetist and intensivist, Dr Kaliamoorthy will simultaneously continue in his role as Senior Consultant in Liver Anaesthesia and Critical Care. 

Announcing his appointment on LinkedIn, he expressed gratitude for the mentors, peers, and teams who shaped his journey and reiterated his commitment to Apollo’s patient-first ethos and pursuit of clinical excellence.

Prior to this, Dr Kaliamoorthy served as CEO of Rela Hospital, where he played a pivotal role in expanding liver transplant services and driving operational improvements. 

Apollo Hospitals, Chennai is in the midst of an ambitious transformation, with recent AI-driven initiatives in precision oncology, diagnostics, and clinical documentation. 

Dr Kaliamoorthy’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture as the hospital positions itself at the forefront of tech-enabled, patient-centric care in an increasingly competitive healthcare landscape.

The appointment also aligns with Apollo’s larger strategy of placing clinician-leaders at the helm of its hospitals, ensuring its leadership philosophy is grounded in both compassionate care and operational agility. 

Days back, Apollo Hospitals announced its Q4FY25 results, reporting a 53.5% year-on-year increase in net profit to INR 390 Cr, compared to INR 254 Cr in the same period last year. The earnings surpassed Street estimates, which had pegged the profit at INR 374 Cr.

Further, the company’s board has also recommended a final dividend of INR 10 per equity share for the financial year 2024-25.
