Delhi Home Minister Distributed Over 5,000 Ayushman Bharat Health Cards to Residents

The minister also handed over Ayushman health cards to 10 senior citizens, under the government scheme offering free health treatment worth up to INRRs 10 lakh.

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) west Delhi Lok sabha member Kamaljeet Sahrawat handed out Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) cards to over 5,000 beneficiaries.

The Central government rolled out AB PM-JAY, a health insurance scheme, in the Capital last month with the first batch of beneficiaries receiving the health cards guaranteeing timely care during medical emergencies without any financial strain.

Sood said, “Illness will no longer be a financial burden. The scheme ensures both accessibility and quality of treatment."

Under AB PM-JAY, 6.5 lakh families will receive INR 5 Lakh health cover per family for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation, with the Delhi government providing an additional INR 5 lakh cover from its own funds.

Singh, who distributed the health cards in Vikaspuri, west Delhi commented, “This scheme guarantees both accessibility and quality of treatment. It is not just a health protection initiative but also a step towards restoring dignity and confidence in every family.”

The scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on Delhi residents as they can now access medical care at 48 empanelled hospitals in Delhi and others across the country.

Ayushman Vay Vandana scheme

As part of a public health initiative, over 5,000 residents in Delhi have received Ayushman Bharat health insurance cards. Delhi minister Saurabh Sood personally handed 10 senior citizens from Janakpuri their cards.

The distribution took place under the Delhi government’s Vay Vandana Yojana, an insurance-cum-pension scheme to provide senior citizens with comprehensive healthcare support. The scheme ensures free treatment coverage of up to INR 10 lakh.

Currently, 100 hospitals across the capital are empanelled under the scheme, offering accessible treatment to eligible beneficiaries.
