This initiative, the Minister noted, is actively driving digitization and alleviating the burden of carrying physical medical files, paving the way for a more equitable healthcare system in Maharashtra.
Hon. Minister of Health and Family Welfare for the Government of Maharashtra, Shri Prakash Abitkar, delivered a powerful virtual address at the DHN City Meet-Up Mumbai 2026, emphasizing the urgent need to address healthcare disparities.
Speaking at 11:30 AM, Minister Abitkar outlined a comprehensive roadmap for integrating advanced technology into the state's medical infrastructure, with a focus on placing healthcare equity at the center of the digital health agenda.
The Minister highlighted the progress already made through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), stating that hundreds of thousands of citizens are now receiving their ABHA IDs.
This initiative, the Minister noted, is actively driving digitization and alleviating the burden of carrying physical medical files, paving the way for a more equitable healthcare system in Maharashtra.
"In today's times, we are at the forefront in the overall education, industry, and all sectors of Maharashtra. But along with being at the forefront of these sectors, we all need to be highly health-conscious," Shri Abitkar stated, stressing that the successful implementation of the state's digital health vision requires unified action from all stakeholders.
Further, the health minister highlighted the deployment of advanced technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Telemedicine. On AI, he pointed to its ability to accurately diagnose illnesses as serious as cancer.
Along with AI, he praised the life-saving impact of telemedicine, which currently allows patients in remote corners of Maharashtra to consult with top medical experts in Mumbai, saving them crucial time and financial resources.
Shri Abitkar drew attention to the current healthcare divide, acknowledging that advanced medical services in major hospitals are predominantly accessible to the financially secure, while common citizens often struggle for basic medical necessities. The primary objective of the digital health push, he explained, is to dismantle these barriers and ensure equitable, high-quality, and free healthcare for everyone.
The Health Minister confidently assured the audience that the state’s leadership including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar is fully committed to delivering top-notch healthcare facilities.
The Maharashtra government is rapidly working to streamline all health department operations into a unified digital platform, making it easier for everyone to access the care they need.
Wrapping up his message, Shri Abitkar issued a collaborative call to action to the delegates at the DHN City Meet-Up. He encouraged all stakeholders to pitch in with innovative proposals to help shape health policies and launch pilot projects in government hospitals.
Importantly, he reiterated that as these sweeping digital initiatives accelerate, the state will maintain a strict focus on patient data security and privacy.
