The Government of India is focusing on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and prioritizing the early diagnosis of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda revealed that 60 percent of deaths in the country are attributed to these diseases, making it essential to address this pressing health issue.

Speaking at a recent event, Nadda discussed the transition in India's healthcare strategy from preventive care to curative care. He remarked, “In 2017, we introduced a holistic and inclusive health policy that emphasizes preventive, promotive, curative, geriatric, rehabilitative, and palliative care."

While acknowledging progress in combating communicable diseases, Nadda emphasized the need for greater focus on non-communicable diseases, which require more time to assess outcomes. He highlighted a knowledge gap in the field that must be bridged.

Under the National Program for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases, the government is concentrating on improving healthcare infrastructure, enhancing early diagnosis and detection, ensuring timely referrals, increasing health awareness, and effectively managing NCDs.

As the country continues to grapple with rising rates of non-communicable diseases, these initiatives aim to provide a robust framework for better health outcomes.

Acknowledging this, Nadda said, "Since 60 per cent of total deaths in the country take place due to NCDs, the area is being prioritised."
