AI-powered diagnostic tests would deliver accurate results, enabling doctors to provide timely and advanced treatment to patients.

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as a pioneering state by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in the medical and health fields, said Minister for Health, Medical Education, and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav.

Speaking at the valedictory session of the “Health System-AI-based services” conference at Mangalagiri, the minister said AI-powered diagnostic tests would deliver accurate results, enabling doctors to provide timely and advanced treatment to patients.

He also noted that Andhra Pradesh has targeted reducing the burden of ten major diseases, including non-communicable diseases, through AI services.

He added that the state is also accelerating the use of emerging technologies across sectors, which is expected to support the vision of Viksit Bharat, Andhra Pradesh.

Hailing the AP Medtech Challenge, the health minister highlighted that the successful pilots of 18 selected AI tools were implemented in healthcare services across 140 government health centres and hospitals across the state, involving 297 applications.

Their solutions covered diagnostic tools, portable point-of-care devices, smart monitoring wearables, and remote telemedicine platforms.

He claimed the pilots resulted in 20% higher outpatient services and over 70% increase in inpatient and diagnostic procedures.

In addition, Yadav also outlined plans to integrate 4.96 crore ABHA IDs and nearly 12 crore health records with AI technology, framing it as part of a Viksit 2047 vision to drive affordable healthcare innovations while supporting state and national economic goals.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh trialled AI healthcare solutions across public hospitals, where multiple startups have collectively delivered services to more than 12,000 patients in just over a month while improving diagnostic speed and clinical efficiency under the Medtech Challenge.

Over 37 days, these technologies were used to serve 12,677 patients, enabling early detection of tuberculosis, identification of eye conditions, cancer risk assessment, neonatal complications, and cardiac irregularities.

The government had announced an INR one crore award for the top-performing start-up, along with additional incentives worth INR 40 lakh for others.

The initiative has been driven under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, with a focus on making healthcare more accessible, efficient, and patient-centric.

In recent development, the CM also proposed a “one AI doctor per person” model aimed at deploying artificial intelligence to transform healthcare monitoring and delivery across the state.

Further, among the key participants of the programme was National Health Authority Joint Secretary Kiran Gopal Vaska.

Addressing the inaugural session of the “AI-Based healthcare system stakeholders’ conference” at the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub in Mangalagir, Vaska stated that Andhra Pradesh was the first state in the country to integrate AI innovations into medical services, earning recognition at the national level.

He highlighted AP’s leadership in digitising medical records through ABHA IDs, with over 100 crore accounts opened nationwide, and AP ranking at the top.
