Andhra Deploys AI tools in Hospitals, Says Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav

The AI tools developed by startups are being deployed across 18 government hospitals across the state to strengthen clinical services.

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced the deployment of AI-based technologies in government hospitals to support faster diagnosis and improve treatment outcomes as part of its pilot programme.

According to an announcement made by the Medical and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, the AI tools developed by startups are being deployed across 18 government hospitals across the state to strengthen clinical services.

Reportedly, nearly 40 AI-enabled devices and digital tools are being used to conduct screening and diagnostic tests for around 15 diseases, including cervical cancer, heart disease, tuberculosis, anaemia, cataract, glaucoma, and neurological disorders in children.

The AI-powered tools are designed to assist doctors in diagnosing diseases more quickly and accurately, which is expected to enable timely treatment for patients.

Additionally, advanced software is also being used in certain hospitals to streamline patient care and support medical decision-making.

Some of the AI applications being piloted include cough-analysis tools to detect tuberculosis, systems that help identify early signs of heart disease, and predictive models that analyse data to anticipate dengue outbreaks. Portable diagnostic devices designed to run blood tests for conditions such as diabetes, kidney disorders, and thyroid problems are also being used in certain hospitals.

Further, wearable monitoring devices are also being deployed in hospital settings to track patients’ vitals, particularly in intensive care units.

In addition, certain AI systems automatically record doctor-patient consultations and generate treatment summaries, and prescriptions are also being used.

The Health Minister stated that the technologies being tested are divided into four categories, including diagnostic devices, portable point-of-care systems, wearable patient monitoring devices, and telemedicine platforms.

The minister also noted that the pilot phase will be evaluated after completion, and a report will be submitted to CM Chandra Babu Naidu. Based on the findings, the government may consider expanding AI-driven healthcare technologies to more hospitals across the state.

He further stated that these systems are expected to be integrated with digital health records linked to the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), aimed at enabling more efficient data management and improved continuity of care.

Currently, the pilot programme is underway at several major government hospitals, including facilities in Visakhapatnam, Anantapur, Guntur, Kakinada, and Vijayawada, as well as district hospitals in Tenali and Parvathipuram.
