Andhra Minister Launches INR 2300 Cr Pharma Unit by Blue Jet Healthcare
The plant will manufacture APIs and speciality intermediates with a production capacity of around 2,000 kilolitres. The facility will be developed in phases and is targeted to be operational by FY2028-29.
Minister for Human Resources Development of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Lokesh, has laid the foundation stone for an INR 2300 Cr Pharma unit in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant expansion of Blue Jet Healthcare’s speciality manufacturing footprint.
The greenfield facility by Blue Jet Healthcare, coming up at Rambilli Industrial Park in Anakapalli district near Visakhapatnam, is expected to enhance India’s position in high-value speciality intermediates and contract manufacturing.
Blue Jet Healthcare, founded in 1968 as Jet Chemicals and now headquartered in Maharashtra, has evolved into an integrated Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO). The company supplies contrast media intermediates, APIs, pharmaceutical intermediates and high-intensity sweeteners to regulated markets including the United States and Europe.
The new unit, spread across over 102 acres in Phase II of the Rambilli Industrial Park, represents an investment of approximately INR 2300 Cr. The facility will be developed in phases and is targeted to be operational by FY2028-29.
Once commissioned, it is projected to generate 1,750 direct jobs and around 250 indirect employment opportunities, contributing significantly to the industrial growth of the Visakhapatnam economic region.
The plant will manufacture APIs and speciality intermediates with a production capacity of around 2,000 kilolitres. Importantly, it will integrate advanced environmental safeguards, including an Effluent Treatment Plant with marine discharge connectivity and Zero Liquid Discharge technologies.
According to company details, the system is designed to recover 90-95 per cent of wastewater while reducing energy consumption by nearly 70 per cent, aligning with global ESG and compliance expectations as pharmaceutical supply chains diversify beyond single geographies.
The Rambilli cluster is being positioned as a strategic hub for chemicals and pharmaceutical manufacturing along India’s eastern coast, leveraging port connectivity and industrial infrastructure developed by the state.
The project also aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s broader objective of transforming the Visakhapatnam Economic Region into a high-growth industrial corridor, with pharmaceuticals, medical devices and petrochemicals identified as priority sectors.
