YEIDA Signs MoU with Medical Excellence Japan to Boost Medtech Collaboration

The collaboration is aimed at strengthening R&D capabilities, facilitating technology transfer, and attracting investment in the upcoming YEIDA Medical Device Park.

The Uttar Pradesh Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ) to boost investment and technological collaboration in the medical devices sector.

The agreement was formalized through the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) in the presence of YEIDA CEO Rakesh Kumar Singh and CEO of MEJ, Dr Kenji Shibuya.

The collaboration is aimed at strengthening R&D capabilities, facilitating technology transfer, and attracting investment in the upcoming YEIDA Medical Device Park.

The agreement seeks to establish a structured framework for cooperation to enhance healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and support economic growth.

Commenting on the latest development, YEIDA Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Kumar Singh said, "Recognising the significant role of the healthcare devices sector in improving healthcare delivery, enhancing patient outcomes, and fostering economic growth, YEIDA and MEJ seek to establish a structured framework for collaboration."

Under the agreement, YEIDA is expected to provide the infrastructure, regulatory support, and policy incentives to investors, while MEJ will contribute technical expertise, facilitate participation from Japanese medical technology companies, and support research collaborations, knowledge transfer, and capacity-building initiatives.

In addition, the partnership will also explore financial opportunities in the form of direct investments, including joint funding and grants to accelerate the sector’s development.

Further, as part of the development strategy, both organizations plan to initiate a series of initiatives to enhance collaboration in research and development within the medical devices sector.

These include promoting Yeida’s Medical Devices Park as a potential investment destination for Japanese companies, while extending support to start-ups through incubation programmes, mentorship and innovation initiatives.

The latest development is built on the earlier announcement to sign an MoU with Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ) following the high-level delegation visit to YEIDA last year, to attract Japanese investment for the upcoming medical devices park in Sector 28, Greater Noida.
