YEIDA to Sign MoU with Japan Agency for Medical Devices Park
The agreement is intended to enhance manufacturing, research and development, and exports in the medical devices sector.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ) to attract Japanese investment and technology to its upcoming medical devices park in Sector 28.
The agreement is intended to enhance manufacturing, research and development, and exports in the medical devices sector.
Currently, 101 of the 254 industrial units at the park have been allotted, with 23 lease deeds signed. Construction is underway at seven sites, including TI Medical, the largest allottee with 11 acres, and one unit is already operational. Ten companies have received building plan approvals so far.
A delegation of high-level MEJ officials visited YEIDA last week and met with YEIDA CEO RK Singh and senior Authority representatives to finalize the MoU details. The pact is expected to be signed in the coming months, after which Japanese industry representatives will visit to explore joint ventures and partnerships with Indian companies at the park.
Officials highlighted that the MoU aims to facilitate investment from leading Japanese firms, enable technology transfer to Indian companies, and open export channels targeting the Japanese healthcare market. YEIDA CEO RK Singh said, "This partnership will accelerate the creation of a robust healthcare ecosystem and strengthen the ‘Make in India' initiative. It will position the region as a key global location for medical device manufacturing and innovation."
In parallel, YEIDA is preparing to commence construction of its first factory complex at the park – a Rs 125 crore project spanning 38,665 square meters. The four-storey facility will include 240 plug-and-play industrial units with shared facilities such as cafeterias, exhibition halls, and retail spaces, designed to support MSMEs and startups.
The Medical Devices Park is being developed with central government support and will collaborate with leading technical and medical institutions, including IIT Kanpur, to strengthen research and innovation. Senior officials from the Department of Pharmaceuticals recently reviewed the park's progress, emphasizing the importance of integrating research and training, as well as involving institutions to incorporate AI, advanced materials, and emerging technologies into the park's R&D activities.
