Tripura Achieves Universal Health Coverage for Entire Population Through PM-JAY & CM-JAY: CM Saha

According to the CM, claims worth INR 307 Cr have been settled under PM-JAY, while another INR 50 Cr in claims have been disbursed through CM-JAY.

Tripura has achieved universal health coverage across its entire population by combining the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) with the state-sponsored Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (CM-JAY), according to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.

Addressing a recent public meeting, Saha said PM-JAY covers the majority of Tripura's population, while the remaining residents have been brought under CM-JAY.

He claimed that this combined approach has enabled the state to ensure universal health coverage for all citizens.

According to the Chief Minister, claims worth INR 307 Cr have been settled under PM-JAY, while another INR 50 Cr in claims have been disbursed through CM-JAY.

Saha also highlighted several developments in Tripura's healthcare and medical education ecosystem.

He said Agartala Government Medical College and Hospital had secured the 131st position among medical colleges nationally, while the number of MBBS seats in the state has increased to 500. Tripura is also expected to receive an additional 50 MBBS seats.

The state is further expanding its medical education infrastructure with a proposed medical college in Ambassa, Dhalai district. Initially planned with 50 seats, the institution could potentially be expanded to accommodate 100 students, according to Saha.

He also pointed to the recently opened civil hospital in Agartala and said new homeopathic and Ayurvedic medical colleges are expected to begin functioning in Agartala and Udaipur from the next academic session.

The expansion of medical education, hospital infrastructure and additional healthcare institutions is expected to further strengthen Tripura’s healthcare system and support wider access to care.
