BioStack Raises $9.5 Mn to Build Medical AI Training Infrastructure
The proceeds will support the startup's expansion in the United States and international markets, further development of its technology platform, and growth of its engineering and research teams
California-based Healthtech startup BioStack raised $9.5 million in seed funding led by Peak XV, Afore Capital, DCVC, Emerson Collective, SV Angel, Verdict Capital, Streamlined Ventures, and Y Combinator.
The proceeds will support the startup's expansion in the United States and international markets, further development of its technology platform, and growth of its engineering and research teams.
The funding will also support deeper hospital partnerships and the development of infrastructure for training healthcare AI models.
Sharing his thoughts, Pushpak Kedia, Vice President, Peak XV said, “Sanat and the BioStack team are building critical infrastructure that connects fragmented clinical information and transforms it into a valuable resource for clinicians, researchers, and AI developers. We believe BioStack has the potential to become an important data layer for the next generation of medical AI.”
Founded by CEO Sanat Mishra and CTO Parth Patwa, BioStack builds data infrastructure that connects fragmented clinical information across healthcare systems, including notes, labs, imaging, medications, treatments, and outcomes, to create longitudinal patient records and provides a more comprehensive view of the patient and informs population-level and hospital-level discovery.
By connecting fragmented clinical information, BioStack gives AI and biotech companies the high-quality data needed to train models that understand how disease unfolds, how treatments work, and what drives patient outcomes.
Sanat Mishra, co-founder and CEO of BioStack, said,“We’re building the infrastructure that connects all of the clinical information and makes it useful, both for clinicians making decisions today and for the researchers and AI developers building the future of medicine.”
In addition to creating custom workflows that protect patient privacy and are based on individual provider protocols, BioStack creates proprietary datasets from de-identified data, collecting it from each provider system.
According to the company, these datasets can support medical research, drug development, and the training and evaluation of healthcare AI models. Connecting clinical and biological information with treatment histories and longitudinal outcomes can provide researchers with a broader view of how diseases progress and how patients respond to interventions.
BioStack's approach is intended to create a feedback loop between clinical care and medical research by making more comprehensive patient information available for analysis. The potential applications include studying disease patterns, evaluating treatment outcomes, developing AI models using clinical data, and creating personalized approaches to care.
Currently, the startup’s network spans 100M+ de-identified patient records across the U.S., India, Brazil, and Argentina.
