TN CM Vijay Virtually Inaugurates Health Infrastructure Projects Worth INR 113 Cr

The CM inaugurated a new Radiotherapy Centre at the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital developed for INR 6.78 crore under the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Programme with World Bank assistance.

In a move to strengthen the state's public healthcare infrastructure, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has inaugurated hospital infrastructure projects and commissioned advanced medical equipment worth INR 113 crore across various districts.

Launched from the State Secretariat, the CM virtually inaugurated numerous facilities, including upgraded infrastructure at government hospitals in Aranthangi, Pallipattu, Podaturpet, Athoor, Marakkanam and Valavanur.

Among the key projects is the Government Hospital in Aranthangi, Pudukkottai district, which has been upgraded to a district headquarters hospital; a new six-storey building was constructed at INR 46 crore, while advanced medical equipment worth INR 2.81 crore has also been commissioned.

The upgraded facility includes an emergency ward, CT scan and X-ray units, dialysis services, paediatric and neonatal intensive care units, a blood bank, a ward under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, a toxicology treatment unit and operation theatres.

In Virudhunagar district, infrastructure at the Sivakasi Government Hospital has been expanded with investment worth INR 32.65 crore, including INR 28.80 crore for a new six-storey building and INR 3.85 crore for medical equipment.

The expansion adds an intensive care unit and a maternal and child health wing, increasing the hospital's capacity by 150 beds, 50 ICU beds and 100 maternity beds, and taking its total bed strength from 140 to 290.

The facility is equipped with a centralised oxygen supply system, lifts and modern fire safety systems.

In addition, to strengthen cancer care in southern Tamil Nadu, the CM inaugurated a new Radiotherapy Centre at the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital developed for INR 6.78 crore under the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Programme with World Bank assistance.

The project includes a 20-bed bunker building constructed at INR 4 crore and a radiotherapy machine worth INR 2.78 crore.

The centre is expected to reduce the need for cancer patients from the region to travel to cities such as Chennai, Madurai, Tirunelveli or Thiruvananthapuram for specialised treatment.

The CM further inaugurated upgraded infrastructure at government hospitals in Pallipattu (INR 1.75 crore) and Podaturpet (INR 1.05 crore) in Thiruvallur; Athoor (INR 3.50 crore) in Dindigul; and Marakkanam (INR 3.50 crore) and Valavanur (INR 3.50 crore) in Villupuram.

The projects are expected to strengthen emergency, surgical, radiology and outpatient care at these hospitals.

The inauguration builds on the ongoing healthcare initiatives by the Tamil Nadu government to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure.

In a recent development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay launched Nalam TN, a statewide digital health platform that combines AI-powered WhatsApp outpatient registration, online appointment booking, and transparent hospital donations into a single system.
