Agilus Diagnostics Explores India-Scotland Collaboration in Diagnostic Technology
The discussions also examined opportunities for international technology companies to work with Indian diagnostic networks to evaluate and introduce solutions suited to local clinical and operational requirements.
Agilus Diagnostics has recently hosted Douglas Alexander, Secretary of State for Scotland, and a Scottish delegation at its Goregaon facility in Mumbai to explore opportunities for collaboration in diagnostic technology and research between India and Scotland.
Facilitated by the British Deputy High Commission Mumbai, the visit focused on Agilus Diagnostics' laboratory capabilities and the potential application of emerging diagnostic technologies in the Indian healthcare market.
The programme included discussions on the India expansion plans of Edinburgh-based Microbira and a demonstration of its rapid microbial testing technology, which is installed in Agilus's Microbiology Department.
The technology is designed to support the rapid identification of microorganisms responsible for infections and the detection of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Faster microbial testing can help healthcare providers obtain diagnostic information in a shorter timeframe and support more timely treatment decisions.
The discussions also examined opportunities for international technology companies to work with Indian diagnostic networks to evaluate and introduce solutions suited to local clinical and operational requirements.
Vijender Singh, MD & CEO, Agilus Diagnostics, said, “India’s diagnostics sector presents significant opportunities for growth and innovation. Engagements with international technology companies can help bring advanced capabilities to India and assess their relevance to local healthcare needs. This visit was an opportunity to showcase Agilus’s capabilities and explore potential areas of collaboration.”

Commenting on the future opportunity, Douglas Alexander, Secretary of State for Scotland, said, “India and Scotland have an opportunity to work together on antimicrobial resistance through research and innovation. The visit to Agilus Diagnostics showcased the potential of rapid microbial testing technology and the scope for collaboration to help tackle infections faster.”
Further, the Scotland Office expects Microbira to explore a potential £10 million export opportunity in India's diagnostics market.
Sharing his thoughts, Dr Deepak Sanghavi, Senior Vice President Operations & Chief of Mumbai Reference Lab, Agilus Diagnostics said, “The visit enabled us to showcase our microbiology capabilities and discuss the potential of emerging technologies. Collaboration with international innovators can help evaluate solutions that meet clinical needs while maintaining the quality and operational rigour required for diagnostic testing at scale.”
Through these engagements, Agilus Diagnostics further aims to strengthen dialogue with international technology innovators and explore opportunities to advance diagnostic capabilities in India
