Telangana Reports INR 54,000 Cr Life Sciences Investments, Outlines New Growth Plans

Plans include establishing a Telangana School of Life Sciences, upgrading Genome Valley, and implementing the NextGen Life Sciences Policy to scale the sector to $250 bn by 2030.

Telangana has announced that its life sciences sector has attracted over ₹54,000 crore in investments since December 2023, with projections of more than two lakh jobs across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technology, and digital health.

The update came during the sixth board meeting of the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation, chaired by IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu.

Sharing the developments on X, the minister said the state’s growth reflects a deliberate strategy to build global leadership in the sector.

“Telangana’s rapid rise in the global life sciences arena is a direct result of our Congress government's strategic vision and relentless focus on innovation, infrastructure, and partnerships,” he said.

Highlighting the scale of investment, he added, “Attracting more than ₹54,000 cr in investments since December 2023 and creating over 2 lakh jobs across pharma, biotech, medtech, and digital health is a testament to the trust that global industry leaders place in our state.”

The minister also pointed to Hyderabad’s international recognition.

Hyderabad’s inclusion among the world’s top seven life sciences clusters and the only one from India reinforces the success of our efforts,” he noted.

Looking ahead, the minister said strengthening the ecosystem remains a priority.

“Today’s Board Meeting of Telangana Life Sciences has laid the foundation for the next phase of growth with the establishment of the Telangana School of Life Sciences and upgradation of Genome Valley,” he stated.

He added that the state will be guided by its new sector strategy.

“With the NextGen Life Sciences Policy, we are fully committed to building a $250 billion life sciences economy by 2030 and positioning Telangana as the Life Sciences Capital of Asia,” he said.

According to the government, Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem is currently valued at about $80 billion.

Officials said the state hosts more than 250 US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved facilities, the largest concentration in the country, strengthening its reputation as a hub for global pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The board meeting brought together industry leaders, including Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Chairman Satish Reddy and Laurus Labs CEO Satyanarayana Chava, alongside senior officials such as Special Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar and Telangana Lifesciences CEO Shakthi M. Nagappan.

The proposed Telangana School of Life Sciences will focus on advanced training and workforce development, while Genome Valley is slated for infrastructure upgrades to attract next-generation companies. The foundation also reviewed progress on existing projects and discussed measures to expand research collaboration and innovation-driven investments.
