Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences & Research to Launch Fully Digital e-HMIS System

The system will integrate all major hospital operation services, including outpatient registration, consultations, diagnostics, pharmacies, wards, operation theatres, billing, and patient discharge, under a centralised digital platform.

The Telangana government is set to inaugurate the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (TIMS), Sanathnagar, as a fully digitised hospital with an integrated electronic Hospital Management Information System (e-HMIS) ahead of its scheduled opening on Ugadi, March 19, 2026.

Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narsimha directed officials to implement a seamless e-HMIS that connects all major departments.

The system will integrate all major hospital operation services, including outpatient registration, consultations, diagnostics, pharmacies, wards, operation theatres, billing, and patient discharge, under a centralised digital platform.

Under the system, each patient will be issued a unique hospital ID, with all medical records, including consultations and lab reports, prescriptions, surgeries, and follow-up visits, all of which will be stored electronically.

This measure seeks to eliminate the use of physical files, reduce duplication of records, and minimize the risk of data loss, while maintaining compliance with government data security standards.

The hospital, with a planned capacity of 1,000 beds, has reportedly installed advanced imaging systems, including CT, MRI, and digital X-ray machines.

Additionally, the cath lab, organ transplant operation theatres are in the final stages of preparation for trial runs.

Furthermore, the minister stated that once operational, TIMS Sanathnagar is expected to reduce the increasing patient burden currently faced by major Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Osmania General Hospital, and Gandhi Hospital across the state.
