TCS Joins Forces with SINTEF to Advance AI-Powered Elderly Care

The collaboration will integrate TCS’s digital innovation and AI capabilities with SINTEF’s research expertise to build scalable, real-world technologies that promote independent and healthy living for the ageing population

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a strategic partnership with SINTEF, one of Europe’s largest independent research organisations, to develop and deploy artificial intelligence (AI) solutions aimed at transforming elderly care.

The collaboration will integrate TCS’s digital innovation and AI capabilities with SINTEF’s research expertise to build scalable, real-world technologies that promote independent and healthy living for the ageing population.

The partnership will focus on advancing SINTEF’s Smart Inclusive Living Environments (SMILE) project, which integrates AI, sensors, and data analytics to monitor and support elderly individuals in their homes.

The SMILE platform is designed to support senior citizens in living independently and safely at home by connecting them with family, caregivers, and their community. Using smart technologies, it monitors daily activities, identifies potential health issues, and enables timely caregiver intervention.

Commenting about the partnership, Alexandra Bech Gjørv, President and CEO of SINTEF, said, “Rooted in the heritage of the world-renowned Tata Group, we recognize TCS’s ambition in creating long-term value for its clients, employees, and the community at large. SINTEF shares similar values, and I believe that together, we can improve the quality of life and help the elderly in Norway to be able to stay healthy, in the comfort of their homes, much longer. We are looking forward to collaborating with TCS.”

The partnership aims to bridge the gap between research and practical deployment by co-developing innovative digital tools that address global ageing challenges, improve quality of life, and reduce healthcare system burdens.

A key aspect of this initiative is the application of Social AI, which enables the system to recognize individual needs and tailor care accordingly. By integrating advanced research with digital technologies, the collaboration aims to strengthen elderly care while laying the groundwork for more adaptive and inclusive healthcare solutions in the future.

Reflecting his thoughts on the partnership, Sapthagiri Chapalapalli, Head of Europe at Tata Consultancy Services, said, “We are excited to begin our collaboration with SINTEF. Combining the academic research, TCS’s deep domain expertise and experience of implementing AI strategies will turn ideas into action. Together with SINTEF, the identification of specific, practical AI use cases that address real business challenges, focusing on usability and a human-centric approach, will become to full circle. Our digital technologies will add scale and speed to SINTEF’s research and innovation activities, enabling these projects to have an even greater reach and impact on society.”
