Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services and digital solutions, has partnered with Echo Network, a global social innovation initiative hosted by the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV), to tackle the growing threat of dengue fever and other viral diseases.
This collaboration leverages digital technology and citizen engagement to address pressing public health challenges.
As part of this initiative, TCS is providing technology support to Echo Network’s ‘I am OneHealth’ program in Bengaluru.
Through its TECH4HOPE program, a pro bono initiative aimed at supporting non-profits with technology solutions, TCS is driving community-based efforts to combat dengue through data-driven insights and public participation.
At the core of this project is an interactive WhatsApp-based chatbot designed to engage school and college students in mapping hyperlocal environmental conditions that influence dengue transmission.
This citizen-generated data is then enriched using TCS’ advanced IT solutions, which analyze factors such as humidity, temperature, and location-specific risks.
These insights, developed in collaboration with various Bengaluru-based organizations, contribute to a Vulnerability Index and Dengue Prevention Dashboard, offering real-time monitoring and early intervention strategies.
The initiative is supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, which funds public health and sustainability efforts worldwide.
Dengue remains a serious public health concern, particularly in India, where it is the most common mosquito-borne viral disease.
Bengaluru reported over 14,000 dengue cases in 2024, underscoring the urgent need for preventive action.
The ‘I am OneHealth’ program, initiated by the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India in collaboration with the Bengaluru Science and Technology Cluster, is a public health initiative.
It aims to unite local communities, academic institutions, and health authorities to leverage technology and collective action in the fight against viral diseases.
