South Korea’s St Mary’s Hospital Deploys AI Scribe to Streamline Clinical Documentation
The system is designed to automate medical documentation and reduce administrative workload, which is expected to allow clinicians to dedicate more time to patient care.
South Korea-based St. Mary’s Hospital has launched a pilot operation of a next-generation AI-based voice recognition system for electronic medical records (EMR).
The system called CMC GenNote is developed in collaboration with AI healthcare firm PuzzleAI.
The system is designed to automate medical documentation and reduce administrative workload, which is expected to allow clinicians to dedicate more time to patient care.
The system combines specialised microphones with a medical institution-optimised language model.
It enables clinicians to open documentation forms using voice commands and automatically generate structured electronic medical record entries by summarising spoken content.
The platform is expected to benefit healthcare professionals, including residents, by streamlining documentation tasks and allowing greater focus on clinical responsibilities, education, and research.
Emphasizing the system’s role, Hospital President Dr. Ji Youl Lee said, “What is more important than technology itself is creating an environment where healthcare professionals can devote more time to their patients. I hope this project contributes to enhancing the care experience and relieving clinician burnout.”
Currently, the pilot is being conducted in designated outpatient departments and will gradually expand to key clinical areas such as operating rooms, the emergency department, and inpatient wards.
