As per the plan, the four major Indian cities include Lucknow, Kolkata, Nagpur, and Pune, to be developed over the next two to five years.
Ahmedabad-based Shalby Hospitals has announced a large-scale expansion initiative to establish new multi-specialty hospitals in tier 1 cities.
As per the plan, the four major Indian cities include Lucknow, Kolkata, Nagpur, and Pune, to be developed over the next two to five years.
The hospital currently operates 17 branches with a combined capacity of around 2,300 beds.
A forthcoming greenfield project at Asha Parekh Hospital in Mumbai is expected to raise the total group capacity to approximately 2,500 beds.
The Expansion Plan
According to Shanay Shah, President of Shalby Hospitals, the next phase of growth is focused on Tier-1 cities. He said, “Our next phase of growth will focus on Tier-1 cities.”
He further stated that each new hospital is planned to house around 200-250 beds, noting that “Each new hospital will have about 200–250 beds, which is our sweet spot. We don’t build 1,000-bed facilities but focus on operational efficiency, patient experience, and scalability.”
Commenting on the investment strategy, Shah said, “In metros, we usually spend about ₹1.5–3 crore per bed, depending on the location and infrastructure. In Mumbai, because it’s an asset-light model, the investment will be closer to ₹1.5 crore per bed.”
Shallby Hospitals, which is globally recognized for its orthopaedic expertise, performing some 50,000 to 60,000 joint replacements annually, is reportedly currently focusing on comprehensive multispecialty treatment with interests in cardiology, oncology, neurology, nephrology, critical care, and organ transplants.
Moreover, reports state that the hospital is also investing heavily in technology.
Commenting on this, Shah said, “We have deployed multiple robotic surgery systems, high-end CT and imaging technologies, and advanced radiation bunkers across our hospitals.”
