San Francisco Startup Planbase Bags $ 2 Mn Funding, Unveils New AI Mgmt Platform

It is designed to automate a broad range of administrative tasks, such as staff scheduling, licensing verification, and patient volume forecasting, saving clinics hundreds of hours each month.

San Francisco-based healthtech startup Planbase Technologies has launched an AI-native employee management platform designed specifically for the healthcare sector.

Founded in 2023 by Joe Shearman and Jack Light, the startup offers AI-native employee management services for healthcare, designed to automate a broad range of administrative tasks.

Its offerings include onboarding providers, tracking licenses and credentials, forecasting patient demand and staffing needs, scheduling clinicians, managing payroll, and monitoring performance.

Alongside the product launch, Planbase revealed it has raised $2.1 million in funding led by accelerator Y Combinator and venture investor LocalGlobe, as well as prominent angel backers.

The fresh capital is sought to be used to expand into medium-to-large clinic markets across the U.S. and to hire additional software engineers.

Commenting on the launch, Joe Shearman, Co-Founder of Planbase, said, “We’re thrilled to officially launch our solution and receive backing from a set of investors who are experts in AI and healthcare and who will be a great resource as we scale our solution to more clinics.”

“Today, our clinics are overwhelmed with all the complex tasks required with workforce management, especially in hybrid and telehealth models where doctors interact with patients across in-person, phone, text, and video channels. This set of tasks around scheduling and pay, as well as patient volume predictions, is ideal for AI to automate so doctors and nurses can spend more time on patient care, and clinics reduce risks of costly human errors,“ he added.

More on Planbase’s Latest Mgmt Launch

Planbase’s AI-backed employee management platform is powered by three advanced AI features that work together to streamline and automate complex employee management processes in healthcare.

The Interactive Interface allows users to engage with the platform through natural language queries. This enables receiving instant, data-driven responses or even generating customized dashboards based on the query and eliminates the need for manual data sorting or spreadsheet work.

Further, with Predictive Analytics, Planbase leverages machine learning to accurately forecast patient visit volumes and staffing requirements.

Moreover, its Agentic Workflows enable the platform’s AI agents to autonomously manage repetitive and compliance-heavy tasks. These include verifying provider licenses across states, flagging upcoming credential expirations, and building fully compliant staffing plans. This automation minimizes administrative burden, reduces human error, and ensures smoother clinic operations.

Reportedly, Planbase has already secured multiple healthcare customers managing thousands of providers and serving over 30 million patients.
