The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has announced plans to establish a 900-bed high-tech hospital at its Ramanagara campus in Karnataka, aimed at expanding healthcare infrastructure and supporting clinical practice and medical education in the state.

The proposed hospital will be developed as a state-of-the-art healthcare facility equipped with modern medical technologies, advanced diagnostic services, and specialised treatment departments.

The mega-facility is intended to support the new government medical college and provide critical clinical training for students.

The proposed hospital project forms part of the larger RGUHS campus development underway near Archakarahalli in Ramanagara.

The new campus is being developed at an estimated cost of INR 600 crore and is envisioned as an integrated hub for healthcare services and medical education.

As per previous reports, it was originally planned to house medical, dental, pharmacy, and nursing colleges, along with a 250-bed super-speciality hospital and a 750-bed high-tech hospital.

The revived plan envisions the development of a combined 900-bed healthcare facility as part of the expanding campus infrastructure

According to RGUHS, the decision to establish the 900-bed hospital was approved by the University's Senate and Syndicate as part of efforts to support clinical training and healthcare services at the upcoming Ramanagara campus.

Further, the University authorities have submitted a detailed project proposal and master plan to the Karnataka government and are awaiting approval to commence work.

Speaking on the project, RGUHS Vice-Chancellor B.C. Bhagwan said, “A proposal has been submitted to the National Medical Commission (NMC) this year for the establishment of a new government medical college in Ramanagara. This college is a constituent college of the university, and it is necessary to have our own college hospital. Therefore, a decision has been made to construct a 900-bed high-tech hospital on the RGUHS new campus, and a master plan has been prepared and submitted to the government.”

Once operational, the facility is expected to serve as a tertiary care centre, providing comprehensive healthcare services while supporting clinical training practices.
