In a step to strengthen Jharkhand’s healthcare delivery system and foster innovation, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has launched the ‘District Sandbox’ initiative, a platform designed to accelerate the testing, evaluation, and scaling of healthcare technologies across Jharkhand.
The initiative, unveiled at the recent event, aims to create a real-world testing environment, enabling innovators, startups, and researchers to test medical technologies in public health settings before large-scale deployment.
By enabling evidence-based assessment of emerging healthcare technologies, the District Sandbox seeks to strengthen Jharkhand’s health innovation ecosystem while improving healthcare outcomes, particularly for rural, tribal, and underserved populations.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “Jharkhand offers immense potential for innovators to develop practical solutions suited to local needs and conditions. Such innovations can bring positive changes in people’s lives, especially in tribal and rural communities.”
Highlighting the growing role of technology, Soren stated that artificial intelligence, bioengineering, and real-time data would increasingly shape future healthcare systems.
“Health remains one of the biggest challenges globally, and technology and innovation can significantly improve access to services in remote and tribal areas,” he added.
Further, the chief minister assured innovators and startups of government support in translating promising technologies into practical public-health solutions.
During the event, he also reviewed a portable digital X-ray machine developed by alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad.
Furthermore, emphasizing the state’s efforts to improve healthcare, Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari noted that the government is exploring new models to increase the availability of specialist doctors in rural areas and examining the wider use of AI-based healthcare services.
