POWERGRID Donates INR 12.25 Cr Medical Imaging Systems to HBCHRC, Boosting Cancer Care in North India

The donation includes a 128-slice CT scan system and a Bi-Plane Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) system, technologies that are central to modern cancer diagnosis, staging, and image-guided interventions

Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has donated advanced medical imaging systems worth about INR 12.25 Cr to the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCHRC), New Chandigarh, under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, strengthening cancer care capacity in North India.

The donation includes a 128-slice CT scan system and a Bi-Plane Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) system, technologies that are central to modern cancer diagnosis, staging, and image-guided interventions.

As India’s central transmission utility under the Ministry of Power, POWERGRID plays a critical role in national infrastructure development, and its engagement in healthcare is supported by its strong operational foundation.

The company has been operating 287 substations, over 1,81,894 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, and 5,93,016 MVA of transformation capacity across India.

Through extensive use of automation, digital monitoring, and advanced grid management systems, it has consistently maintained transmission system availability above 99.84 per cent, highlighting its emphasis on reliability and technology-driven operations.

Medical imaging has emerged as a cornerstone of digital health, enabling clinicians to move from symptom-based care to data-driven, precision medicine.

In oncology, high-resolution imaging supports early diagnosis, accurate staging, treatment monitoring, and follow-up, directly influencing survival outcomes.

The addition of these systems is expected to improve patient throughput, reduce diagnostic delays, and enhance clinical decision-making at HBCHRC, particularly for complex and advanced cancer cases.

The initiative aligns with POWERGRID’s broader CSR strategy, which prioritises healthcare infrastructure as a key area of social investment.

Beyond medical imaging and hospital support, the company’s CSR portfolio spans education, skill development, environmental sustainability, rural infrastructure, and women's empowerment, reflecting an integrated approach to inclusive development.
