Sunway Medical Center Sets Up Malaysia’s First Photon-Counting CT Scanner

The system is anticipated to enhance imaging across multiple clinical applications, including cardiology, oncology, neurology, and musculoskeletal care.

Sunway Medical Center has announced the installation of Malaysia’s first photon-counting computed tomography (CT) scanner, marking the introduction of next-generation imaging technology in the country’s private healthcare sector.

The next-gen Photon-counting CT technology is designed to convert X-ray photons into a digital signal, which is expected to enable higher image resolution and improved tissue characterisation and support more precise diagnostics while potentially reducing radiation exposure for patients.

Further, the system is anticipated to enhance imaging across multiple clinical applications, including cardiology, oncology, neurology, and musculoskeletal care.

The new advanced technology has been launched in collaboration with Siemens Healthineers and aims to enhance diagnostic care among patients.
