PM Modi Launches Healthcare Projects at PGIMER, Unveils INR 4,700 Cr Development Package for Chandigarh

The 300-bed Advanced Mother and Child Centre, equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, is expected to enhance maternal and child healthcare services and benefit thousands of families across Chandigarh and neighbouring states.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated multiple healthcare projects at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, as part of a broader development package worth over ₹4,700 crore covering healthcare, education, and road infrastructure.

At PGIMER, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Advanced Mother and Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre, aimed at strengthening tertiary healthcare services for the region.

The 300-bed Advanced Mother and Child Centre, equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, is expected to enhance maternal and child healthcare services and benefit thousands of families across Chandigarh and neighbouring states.

The Advanced Neurosciences Centre will provide integrated services in neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-critical care, and advanced diagnostics under one roof. The facility is designed to deliver timely treatment for patients with complex neurological disorders while strengthening medical research, education, and training in neurosciences.

The inauguration was attended by Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, and Congress MP Manish Tewari. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi visited Haryana's Jind to flag off India's first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat before arriving in Chandigarh.

Addressing the gathering, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said India's healthcare sector has witnessed significant progress over the past 12 years under Prime Minister Modi's leadership. He highlighted the National Health Policy 2017, stating that it marked a shift towards a comprehensive healthcare approach encompassing promotive, preventive, curative, palliative, geriatric, and rehabilitative care.

Prime Minister Modi described Chandigarh as a key healthcare hub for North India, noting that its healthcare institutions serve not only residents of the Union Territory but also patients from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.

Alongside the healthcare initiatives, Modi highlighted Chandigarh's transformation under the Smart City Mission, stating that more than ₹2,500 crore has been invested in technology-driven urban infrastructure, including the Integrated Command and Control Centre, Smart Traffic Management, Smart Parking, and digital governance initiatives.
